(202) PUBLIC HOUSING

The policy of the Government in public housing is to help needy citizens and to improve their living conditions. The Housing Authority maintains a Waiting List of applicants for public rental housing. Offer of flats to eligible applicants will be made in accordance with the order of registration and availability of accommodation.

The Applicant must be 18 years of age or above. The Applicant and his/her family members must be residing in Hong Kong and have the right to land in Hong Kong without being subject to any conditions of stay (except for conditions concerning the limit of stay). Family members who do not have the right to land in Hong Kong should not be included in the application. At the time of allocation, at least half of the family members included in the application must have lived in Hong Kong for 7 years and all family members must be still living in Hong Kong. The household income and asset value should not exceed the prescribed limits. Also the applicants and their household members must not own any domestic property in Hong Kong.

Further details and application forms may be obtained at any District Offices, Public Housing Estate Offices, Sham Shui Po Housing Information Centre and the Housing Authority Customer Service Centre in Lok Fu.

Public housing applicants are strongly reminded that all information supplied on the application form must be complete and accurate. Under Section 26(1)(c) of the Housing Ordinance (Chapter 283), any person who knowingly makes any false statement to HA in respect of an application for PRH shall be guilty of an offence, and shall be liable on conviction to a fine at Level 5 as specified in Schedule 8 to the Criminal Procedure Ordinance (Chapter 221) and to imprisonment for 6 months (the maximum fine at Level 5 is $50,000 as at May 2011).
