Annual Report 2025 > 1. Overview

1.1 During the year under review, the Duty Lawyer Scheme had represented 23,680 defendants charged with criminal offences in the Magistrates’ Courts, representing an increase of 5.42% over the previous year. The number of subjects the Care or Protection Scheme represented in Care or Protection Proceedings in the Juvenile Courts was 66, representing a decrease of 39.45%. The Legal Assistance Scheme for Non-refoulement Claimants had handled 2,710 claims, representing an increase of 5.49% over the previous year. The Free Legal Advice Scheme had the pro bono service of 773 volunteer lawyers at nine evening centers advising 6,709 persons, representing a decrease of 5.75% over the previous year. The Tel Law Scheme had recorded a total of 5,936 calls, representing a decrease of 5.75% over the previous year. The Tel Law website had recorded 547,016 hits, representing an increase of 34.39% over the previous year. The Duty Lawyer Service’s website’s Visitor Sessions had recorded 273,827 hits, representing a decrease of 8.89% over the previous year.
