(806) HOW TO APPLY FOR A HONG KONG IDENTITY CARD Application can be made at the nearest Registration of Persons office. New arrivals from the Mainland of China holding One-way Permits must have their first registration for Hong Kong identity cards at the Registration of Persons - Kowloon Office. Workers arrived in Hong Kong under the Supplementary Labour Scheme must register their identity cards at the Registration of Persons - Kwun Tong Office. At the time of application, the following documents, if available, should be produced: -
If you are aged under 18, you must be accompanied by your parent or legal guardian who should produce his or her valid travel document, passport or Hong Kong identity card and the documentary proof of legal guardianship. If you already have an identity card issue to you between the ages of 11 and 17, you are required to apply for an adult identity card within 30 days after your 18th birthday. You can apply at the nearest Registration of Persons office. At the time of application, you have to produce your old identity card. Identity cards issued to persons newly arrived and persons reaching the age of 11 or 18 are free of charge. For the replacement of a card which has been lost, destroyed, damaged, defaced or requires alternation, a fee will be charged. Date of amendment: 22nd February 2013
