Duty Lawyer Scheme > Care or Protection Proceedings

Service Content
Prior to the court hearing the eligible child or juvenile will be interviewed by the duty lawyer. Details of the court proceedings, application/variation of the Care or Protection Order and relevant reports will be explained to the child or juvenile and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s). The duty lawyer will submit his/her views to the Magistrate to assist the court in the process of formulating welfare plans in the best interest of the child or juvenile.

Contact and How to Apply
Juvenile Courts are situated at the Eastern, Kowloon City, West Kowloon, Tuen Mun and Fanling Magistrates' Courts, where Court Liaison Offices of the Duty Lawyer Service are located.
Social Worker of SWD or gazetted place of refuge or the subject Police Officer will refer the case of the service target to the Duty Lawyer Service. Duty lawyers under the Scheme will approach the concerned parent(s)/guardian(s) and subsequently contact those eligible children or juveniles. Enquiry can be put to the Court Liaison Offices of the Magistrates' Courts at which the child or juvenile will appear.
